RETRO SPACE GIRL V1
Version 1
Photographer
Why I chose to make this costume:
This is a refined version of the Retro Space Girl outfit I made for a photoshoot. I had so much fun with the concept, but always felt like the costume was rushed. So I sat down and designed a new costume from scratch, keeping with the retro futuristic theme and silver/pink colors.
How I made this costume:
I wanted this version to be a bodysuit for an even more scifi feel, so I drafted one up and made it out silver PVC vinyl. It's fully lined in a comfortable stretch material, and I added pink trim all around the edges and keyhole. I also made my own trim by stretching spandex over batting - yay puffy retro futuristic trim!
The belt, arm warmers and leg warmers were the finishing touches. I lost my cute pink boots from the original shoot, or I would have used them over the flimsy leg warmers. I'm considering getting more vinyl and making boot covers. The wig was bought locally and I poofed up the back for a beehive look. The headset came from Target and I used my original gun.
Thoughts on this costume:
This one definitely came out looking just like I'd hoped. Sexy in a cheeky, fun 60's way. I got to shoot with Oscar and Darkain and I love how the images turned out. Thank you guys so much!
Most recently I did a studio photoshoot with the talented Benny Lee, who created amazing digital backgrounds for this character. He really took this theme to the next level!
