time completed: Beginning of October 2001 hours spent: 99+ worn at: Ani-magic 2001, Ohayocon 2002, Otakon 2002, Cyberotika 2004 Fashion Show Why I chose to make this costume: From the first moment I laid eyes on the design I wanted to have this outfit. Lulu is the most intriguing Final Fantasy Character, in looks and personality, so of course I could not pass up the chance to make her costume. How I made this costume: I would like to note that I took the liberty to add a personal touch to the original design. I have been re-creating costumes for a while now and while making something accurately down to the last detail can be fun, it leaves little to no room for your own creativity. You will find details on my costume that give the design a little more depth and character. The skirt and belts were the most difficult parts to work on, but the jewelry and hair accessories took me the longest to make. I did a lot of beading for this costume, and also hand-painted the lace and sewed them individually on, creating a pattern inspired by the original design. I first used rabbit fur for the corset trim, until I found the perfect fox fur for it. Aside from the moogle, a gift from my friend Cat, everything was done by me. Thoughts on this costume: It's a wonderful feeling to put your heart and soul into a project, it reminds me of why I do spend so much time and money on costuming. While it’s impossible to do a lot in this outfit (like sitting down or climbing stairs), I really enjoy showcasing it whenever I have the chance. Reference pictures
